When I Grow Up...

Today when we were driving down the road Addie asks

Addie: "Mom how am I going to get a car when I get to be a mommy?"
Me: "When you get big you'll buy one"
Addie: "Where will I get the money?"
Me: "You'll get a job and save your money until you have enough to buy a car"
Addie: "What kind of job will I get?"
Me: "What kind of job do you want to have?"
Addie: "I think I'll be a window washer"

Pretty cute.  Oh and the next part of the conversation went like this

Addie: "How did you get your car when you got big mommy?
Me: "My daddy actually bought it for me"

I probably should have lied and told her I saved the money - sorry Scott!

Owen's Quotes

Scott: "Owen, which classes did you have today."

Owen: "Art"

Scott: "Do you like art?"

Owen: "No, I don't think I'm an art guy.  I think I'm more of a recess guy."

Gardening

This year, since we're moving mid-sunmer, we didn't plant a big garden.  I was just going to do herbs but Owen had to have one tomato plant and wanted to try and grow carrots this year.  He can't wait so every now and then we pull up one to see how they are growing.  This is what it's looking like these days.  He actually ate them and said they were delicious!  Hopefully they'll grow a lot in the next 2 1/2 weeks before we leave!  I love that O loves to garden!

Blueberry Pie & Whittling

For one of Parker's Bear Scout requirements, he had to help make a dessert for his family.  We made this blueberry pie.  He did a great job, it was really yummy.  (Notice O in the back with nothing but his underwear!  The kids were in their pjs when I took this pic.  This is Owen's new thing to sleep in only his undies.)
He also had to whittle.  He whittled this mini bat/ mini paddle.
Parker loves scouts and loves to work on it.  Scott tries to help work on his requirements on Sunday afternoons.

Addie's Cheeks!

Why is it that little girls never notice that their swimsuits are up their bum?  You'd think it would bother them but it doesn't seem to.  I love seeing Addie's little cheeks hanging out of her suit - so cute.

Girl Time

Since the boys were at Reds Camp and Addie was at a one day camp at Lifetime I decided to treat myself to a pedicure.  Lisa and her girls, Gabby and Olivia, joined me and then I picked up Addie and we went out for a girls only lunch.

I'm going to miss Lisa so much.  She is one of the nicest people I've ever met.  I don't know what I would have done these past two years without her!  These pics are a little blurry but I don't really have a lot of me with Lisa so I'm posting them anyways.

Tough Day at the Field

I LOVE to watch the boys play baseball.  This year they are on the same team and Scott's the coach.  It's so great.  They are so cute in their uniforms and their eye black.  This day was pretty hot so the eye black ended up everywhere but I love it.

Scott is just in heaven.  He says if he could support our family by being a little league coach, that's what he would want to do.  I love watching Scott and the boys on the field and little Addie is such a trooper to get dragged along all the time.  She never complains, maybe it's because she always gets a team snack at the end of the game!

This has been a crazy season though.  We've had so much rain so lots of games have been cancelled and are being rescheduled.  Today I heard on the news that this month we've had rain on 22 days out of 27 - crazy!!

Date Night

Scott and Addie went on a ‘Daddy Daughter’ date night at LifeTime.  Don’t know what she enjoyed more, the actual date, or being able to tell Parker and Owen that she got to go on a date with Dad and NOT them.  Scott was so cute and brought her flowers.  They had a blast, complete with heart-shaped pizzas, prom-style photos, dancing with a DJ (she requested ‘Dynamite’ and went crazy) and mingling with the Disney Princesses.  The night was capped off with face painting.  Addie, of course, picked the design with the most make-up and the artist commented that she seemed “unusually relaxed” for someone her age.  We’re in trouble….

Since Scott was out with Addie I wanted to take the boys on a date.  The choose Noodles for dinner and then Owen had a birthday party so we dropped him off and headed over to "The Web" where Parks and I rode go-carts and played miniature golf.  The go-carts didn't go quite as fast as Parks would have liked and he told me "I thought you were a better driver than this."  It was really fun.  We double dated with Lisa and Ethan Huntsman.

Addie-isms

I love the cute way my kids mispronounce things.  I know it's probably not the best thing, but I hardly ever correct them.  I figure they'll learn one day and I'll just enjoy the cuteness until then.  These are some of my favorites from Addie right now.

Lalem for Lemonade
ogrit for yogurt
crocidator for crocidile or alligator
Litstip for lipstick (she says this often since she's OBSESSED with lipstick)
Scootboarder - scooter
Wipey Towel - paper towel or toilet paper

FHE

We have a few favorite FHE games (probably the fave being Boulah Boulah - which is what Scott says his family played at pretty much every FHE - it's just the getting hotter/colder game) but our favorite game du jour is Pickle.  Since we don't have a ton of stuff in our basement there's lots of room to run.  We've pushed the couch to the wall and the kids love to play pickle with us.  Of course, Parker has to dress appropriately by putting his baseball pants on since he's going to be sliding.  Last night everyone (including Addie) had to get their baseball pants on.  Pretty cute.

This is Scott's "action" shot of them sliding into the pillow base - doesn't look staged at all does it???

Owen's New Do

Scott's going to be so sad because he loves O's hair but it was just getting out of control.  Sometimes I love it but lots of the time it just looks like a rats nest.  I was trying to decide if I should cut it short so I asked Owen what he wanted.  He said he wanted it short like Parkers.  So we did.  The on the way out to the car after getting it cut he says "I don't like my short hair, it doesn't look like me, I want it long again."  He kept saying that for next few days.  I think I'll let it grow out again - it's just not O with short hair!

Happy 70th Birthday George!

Scott's mom planned a surprise birthday for his Dad.  She asked all the kids to come in and surprise his dad.  It was so fun.

Scott and I flew in Friday afternoon.  He got upgraded to first class so I could sit there.  It was so great to be on a flight and read a book, a magazine and watch a movie!  We landed and took the shuttle over to rent our car.  It was sunny and warm and beautiful but I was in the worst mood.  I looked over and saw Scott seemed pretty bummed to.  We both realized it was because this happens every time we fly into California because it bums us out that we don't live there! It's so beautiful and the weather is so great and it would be wonderful to be by family.  Oh well, maybe one day.

We ran by to see Donna and Brien really quick.  Donna was working so I just got to chat for a minute but it was still great to see her.  She's showing although you can hardly tell in a flowy top, which is what she had on.  She looks great.  It was really fun to see her.  We walked over to a little cupcake place by Donna's work with Brien.  He seems to really love living there.

We then drove up to surprise Scott's parents at dinner.  Scott's Dad didn't suspect anything and we told his Mom we couldn't find a sitter so I wasn't coming.  We hid in the car until they got seated and then Scott went in for the surprise.  I waited 5 mins and then went in.  Scott's mom had the greatest reaction to me coming in - she was shocked.  We had some delicious Mexican food and then went back home for some hot tubing.  Kristi, Cole and their kids arrived late that night.  It would have been fun to have our kids there but it was great getting to be with Taylor, Baylee and Layla and getting to play and talk with them more.  They are such sweet girls.

The next morning, Scott and I went for a run.  The weather was just perfect and it had been so long since we've run together - it was wonderful.  We went to Rosa's (another Mexican place) for lunch but we were scared we wouldn't have time for In-N-Out so we stopped on the way to lunch and split a cheeseburger animal style and fries - SO YUMMY!  At the end of lunch (which was so good) Jeff and Alberto came, it was a great surprise.  We never see them so it was really fun.

We went back to Scott's parents and hung out around the pool - again the weather was AMAZING 75 and sunny.  Then packed up for yet another Mexican feast at the Whole Enchilada!  This is where Scott and his family grew up eating ALL the time.  It's soooo good.  Brian, Carrie, Kendall & Connor met us there and we loved seeing them.

We all went back to George and Eileen's (except J & A) and watched a video Scott had made for his Dad of pics starting pretty much when Brian & Carrie got married.  At the end the grandkids sang happy b-day and wished him a happy b-day.  It was really cute.

We woke up the next morning at 5am to catch our flight.  It was a very quick trip but we had a GREAT time.  I wish we lived closer and got to see them all more.

Play-doh

I'm only posting this so I can prove to my kids that I did let them play with play-doh occasionally.  I hate play-doh!  I love that it entertains my kids but I HATE the clean-up.  It's great when you only get it out once a year or every other year because it entertains them for hours.  We did about three days in a row of play-doh and I think it's going back in the cabinet until 2012!

Grandaddy Comes to Town

We were so excited to have Grandaddy in town this weekend.  Scott saw that UGA was playing UK in basketball on Saturday so he asked Dad if he could get tickets and come up and go with him and the boys. He flew in on Friday afternoon and we hung out at the house that night.  The next morning he was able to go see Owen and Parker's basketball games before heading down to Lexington for the game.  We went to church and then hung out a little before he had to leave Sunday afternoon.

Addie LOVES Grandaddy!!!  When she was about 9 mos. old, Dad came and watched her and the boys (mom and Donna came for parts too but Dad was there the whole time) for a week or more while Scott and I went to Hawaii.  I think they really bonded because Addie just adores him.  Dad came while Addie was at preschool so he went with me to pick her up.  As soon as she saw him she got the biggest smile and ran into his arms - so cute.  As soon as we got home she stole him away to play with just her in her room.  He played a lot of dollhouse and read who knows how many books.

The boys (and especially Scott) loved going to the game with Dad.  They got to eat at Cracker Barrel which is always a hit.  They said there were only about 10 UGA fans including themselves at the game.  They were also saying how nice all the UK old men working the game were.

We had so much fun having him here, the only thing that would have made it better is if Grandmama could have come too!

Pine Wood Derby

Parker had his 1st Pinewood Derby last night.  He has been so excited about it.  Since Scott and I aren't woodworkers, it was nice that one of the men in the ward (Troy Christensen) offered up his tools and help one Saturday afternoon.  Parks and Scott cut it out and then spray painted it blue and Scott put the wheels on it.  Parker really wanted it to be a BYU car so we ordered some stickers which didn't show up until the day of the race - that was stressful!

We wanted Parker's car to be his so he did all the decorating.  It turned out great.  He put windows and headlights on it and I think he was really proud of it.  Here he is putting the finishing touches on it.

We really tried to prepare Parks for the fact that he would probably come in last place because lots of the Dad's get really into it and are good at building this kind of stuff.  Scott has such a great way of making everything funny so Parker was fully prepared to come in last and he didn't seem to mind it because Scott had been joking about it so much.  It was funny on the way to the race he was going through everyone in this group saying why they would probably beat him and the reasons were "Adam will probably beat me because his Dad has tools" and "Isaac will probably beat me because his Dad has tools and he knows how to use them."  So funny.  Here's Parker right before the race.
 The competitors!
He came in last in his first race, then second in his second race and FIRST in his third race (and second place in all the rest of the races - they had 6).  It was very exciting. He ended up tying for second place in his division.  They only had one second place ribbon and since it was a tie he went home with the third place ribbon but I told him I'd get him a second place one.
 He came in second!!!
 Some of his buddies.

Each boy got an award at the end of the night and there were some pretty random ones but Parker got "Fastest Looking Design" which was cool.
Unfortunately, Scott couldn't be here because he's in Minneapolis all week but Parker told him all about it on the way home.  He went to bed last night talking about what his car was going to look like next year - a bear car since he'll be a bear then.  Tonight life is great in Parker's world! - and mine.

Owen & Addison

Owen and Addie fight a lot.  I'm sure some of it is because they are together the most.  But today when I went to pick them up at the child center at the gym, they were in the little gym in the back and Owen was teaching Addie how to do a  bounce pass.  I watched them for a while without them knowing it.  It was so cute.  I love seeing those moments of them being friends!

Rock Climbing

Today the kids were out of school for MLK day so I wanted to take them somewhere to get some energy out.  Lots of the bouncy house places were to capacity so we headed over to Lifetime Fitness with a friend and her kids.  The boys went rock climbing.  They loved it!  I don't know why we haven't done this before, especially since it's free.

Here's Parker
 And Owen
